Billy Joel song 'We didn't start the fire' adapted by Samajwadi Party for polls

Billy Joel's "We didn't Start the Fire" is adapted into Hindi to promote party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party has bought rights to Billy Joel's popular song "We didn't Start the Fire" and adapted it into Hindi to promote party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ahead of the 2014 general elections.

The song, "Man se hain Mulayam Irade Loha hai" (He is soft-hearted but iron-willed), has been written by Mr Yadav's teacher Udai Pratap Singh, a former Rajya Sabha MP, and is sung by Bollywood playback singer Javed Ali.

The 30-second song, which has pride of place on the Samajwadi Party website, also features the names of prominent socialist leaders and lists welfare schemes of the Akhilesh government have also been listed in the lyrics of the song.

"The party has bought rights of the song and its adaption will be used to promote Netaji (Mulayam) in the Lok Sabha elections. It has already been uploaded on the party website and Facebook page", a senior party leader told PTI today.

The rights to the Grammy Award nominated song from 1989 were bought by a Mumbai-based production house for the Samajwadi Party.

"Man se hai Mulayam" will now also be the punchline of all SP ads in Uttar Pradesh, which the party rules.

In the pipeline are two more songs composed by Bollywood-based composer Nikhil and to be sung by Javed Ali and popular singer Rekha Bhardwaj for the party's campaign.
