Bandh costs India nearly 2,000 crores: Early estimate

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described today's Bharat Bandh as "unprecedented".  Early estimates suggest the bandh has cost India more than a thousand crores.  

Bihar: 50 crores in losses from bandh, say industry sources

Lucknow: Industry losses estimated at 250-300 crores; additional losses of 120 crores for shops and small businesses in  cities like Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad   (source: FICCI)

Gujarat: Industry sources peg the loss at around 500 crores

Kerala:  Loss due to the near-total shutdown today is around Rs 150 crore (source: CII Kerala)

West Bengal:  Estimated losses of 500 crores (source: Indian Chamber of Commerce).
