Gondia, Maharashtra:
After scores of wheat bags sent by Central government were found rotting for the last one week in Etawah, here's another shocking revelation of wheat rotting in the FCI godowns in the Gondia District of Maharashtra. Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Gondia has six godowns which have a capacity of 30,000 ton. Inside the godowns, 9,000 ton of rice is being stored, but the rest of the space is empty.
More than 56,000 sacks of grain are left in the open.
FCI depot manager SL Varma says that in May-June 70,000 sacks of wheat came to the depot from Punjab, the godown was already full and there was no place to store this new wheat.
Over 200 sacks have gone completely bad.
