AAP's Kumar Vishwas challenges 'dynasty politics' ahead of rally in Rahul Gandhi's Amethi today

Aam Aadmi Party's Kumar Vishwas

Lucknow: Aam Aadmi Party's Kumar Vishwas will hold a rally today in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, the high-profile parliamentary constituency represented by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Though Mr Vishwas has not been officially declared the AAP candidate from Amethi, his nomination from the prestigious constituency is perhaps a foregone conclusion now for the national elections, due by May.

Through his 'Jan Vishwas' rally, Mr Vishwas said the AAP would tell people about its ideas and plans and would sound the bugle of end of dynasty rule in Amethi.

"Amethi has to decide now. I am an 'aam aadmi' and he (Rahul Gandhi) is a prince. If Amethi wants, it can get rid of dynasty politics. Winning and losing is not the point, but what is important is we are challenging dynasty politics and corruption," the 43-year-old leader said on his way to Amethi.

Continuing with his party's anti-corruption plank, he tweeted this morning, "To support Aam Aadmi Party in Amethi against Corruption and Political Dynasty, Please give a MISS CALL on 044-30991388."

Referring to reports that the Congress Number Two is considering contesting from Chikamagalur in Karnataka, apart from Amethi, Mr Vishwas challenged Mr Gandhi to contest only from Amethi.

"If Rahul contests from Chikamagalur along with Amethi, then it would be deemed that he has conceded defeat before contesting," the poet-turned-politician said.

Mr Gandhi's grandmother and former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, contested from Chikamagalur in 1978.

The AAP leader said that by contesting against Rahul Gandhi, his aim was not to gain popularity, which he said he already enjoys through his poetry. He claimed that it were his colleagues from Amethi who proposed that he contest from there.

"When PM says he is ready to step down for Rahul Gandhi, he is insulting the capabilities and aspirations of youths which comprise 65 per cent of India's population," Mr Vishwas said.
