Dewas: A man, in his thirties, was arrested in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, for allegedly raping his minor daughter for over a year.
The girl's mother had died two years ago and she was living with her father since.
The police had allegedly turned away the minor, who is studying in class 7, when she first went to file a complaint.
However, after the National Commission for Women and the media got involved, the girl's medical test was conducted and an FIR was filed against her father.
Another girl, who is the tenant of the accused and who took the victim to police station, said, "On Thursday she (minor) broke down and told me her father had been raping her for over a year now. I confronted the accused but he threatened me to not go to police. But I went ahead and the police also tried discouraging me that I should not report this."
"We have registered a FIR against the accused and have booked him for rape and sexual offence act. He has been arrested," Superintendent of Police Anil Shrivastava said.
The Dewas Bar association says they have decided that no lawyer will defend the accused in court.
