London: Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp has reportedly put himself on a green tea diet in a bid to lose weight for his upcoming movie 'Dark Shadows'.

The 47-year-old actor is drinking gallons of green tea in order to shed around 10 pounds for the lead role, reported Sun online.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star, who recently starred as Mad Hatter in Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland', is supporting the diet with low fructose fruit, such as pineapples and strawberries.

'Dark Shadows' is set to be directed by Tim Burton and filming is scheduled to get underway in April 2010.

Set for release in 2012, the film is based on the gothic soap opera of the same name that aired on ABC between 1966 and 1971 and is about the adventures of a vampire named 'Barnabas Collins' played by Jonathan Frid.
