Cops in Gujarat were reporting my movements to someone: Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal has alleged that someone is tracking his movements in Gujarat

New Delhi: With 10 police jeeps following him, Arvind Kejriwal today resumed his tour of Narendra Modi's Gujarat after a day of dramatic protests and clashes that followed his brief detention on Wednesday.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader alleges that on Wednesday, the police were constantly reporting his movements to "someone" on the phone.

"When I visited a hospital in Sami, someone from my team told me that the police officers with me were reporting my movements to someone over the phone," Mr Kejriwal told the media. "I then got a call from a journalist saying I would be stopped in the next town and not be allowed to go on."

In a tweet, his close aide Manish Sisodia echoed the allegation, "Day 2 in Gujarat-state police is spying on me.Troubling, questioning, threatening people I'm meeting since last evening (sic)."

Mr Kejriwal says he is being harassed on the orders of the Chief Minister. He is on a four-day tour of Gujarat for what he calls an audit of Mr Modi's claims of exceptional development in the state that he has governed since 2001. The BJP's prime ministerial candidate has held up Gujarat as an example of what he can do for the country.

On the road, the AAP leader faced several protesters carrying black flags. At Kutch, his car's windscreen was smashed by men who, he claimed, were shouting slogans in Mr Modi's name.
Mr Kejriwal's detention in Radhanpur, 170 km from Ahmedabad, led to clashes between the AAP and BJP.

AAP members allegedly hurled stones and scaled the walls of the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Chairs were also flung from within the BJP office. (see pics/read)

Mr Kejriwal resigned as Chief Minister of Delhi last month, 49 days after taking office.

AAP has suggested that if Mr Modi decides to run for Parliament from anywhere outside Gujarat, it will field Mr Kejriwal against him.
