Bangladeshi Killed, Indian Injured in Firing in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: A Bangladeshi worker was killed and an Indian injured when a Saudi man opened fire at them for failing to make a prayer call on time at a mosque in Riyadh, a media report said today.

The incident occurred during Asr prayers in a mosque in Ortawwiyah in the Majmaah district, about 30 km from the Riyadh city center.

After police arrived at the crime scene, they found Mohammed Rafiq Tajul Islam, 32, a Bangladeshi worker, lying in a pool of blood beside an Indian worker, who was alive with two gunshot wounds, Arab news reported.

The condition of the injured Indian, whose identity was withheld by the police, was stated to be out of danger.

The Bangladeshi victim used to make the call for prayer for the muezzin. On the day of the incident on Sunday, the worker had failed to make the call on time, which infuriated the muezzin, the report quoted sources from the Ortawwiyah area as saying.

The police arrested the perpetrator and said he is a psychiatric patient at a nearby hospital.
