With five daughters at home, man kills his wife for not having a son

Bareilly, UP: Five young girls - the youngest is just three years old - were at home when their father killed their mother at their home in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.

He blamed his wife for not giving him a son.  After a fight on Tuesday night, he strangled her.

Relatives say he had been an abusive husband for many years.

"He used to beat her up. They even landed in court once. A lot happened. And now he has done this," the victim's brother said.

The accused is missing. Two teams of the Bareilly police have been searching for the accused for more than 24 hours.

The five daughters are between the ages of three and 13. The girls are being looked after by their maternal uncle.

According to the 2011 census at 883 women to 1000 men the district of bareilly has one of the lowest sex ratios in Uttar Pradresh.
