Unemployed engineer commits suicide

Mumbai: Jobless for over a month, a 32-year-old Information Technology (IT) engineer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in central Mumbai, police said on Wednesday.

Ketan Kunal Sardaar, an engineer who had quit his job at an IT firm over a month ago, was found hanging at his fourth floor apartment at Elphinstone area late on Tuesday night, said Shyam Patil, sub inspector at N M Joshi Marg police station.

A suicide note was left by him holding nobody responsible for the extreme step, the officer said.

Ketan had resigned from his job as his company had shifted to outside Mumbai recently, Patil said.

"Ketan's wife has stated that he was depressed because of his unemployment. She had gone to her mother's place yesterday and when she called at Ketan's mobile number, he did not answer," Patil stated.

"Worried, his wife rushed home. Despite repeated knocks on the door and calling him, Ketan did not respond from inside. She broke down the door with the help of neighbours and he was found hanging inside," he added.

Further probe is on in the case.
