Two prisoners escape from Gujarat prison

Ahmedabad: Two undertrials, facing rape charges, escaped from the Godhra sub-jail, police said today.

"The inmates fled last evening from barrack number 6 of Godhra division sub-jail by breaking window panes of the bathroom," a police official said.

Apart from Section 376 (rape), the duo - Vishal Vadher, a resident of Junagadh district and Mukesh Raval, from Sabarkantha district - were also booked under Section 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her into marriage) of Indian Penal Code.

Raval was also booked under Section 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) in another case, police said.

Police said that both inmates initially broke the window panes of the bathroom before digging a hole to get out of the barrack. They climbed the bathroom pipe and used a rope to escape from the jail premises.

Godhra Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Badshah said an inquiry has been initiated into the incident.

"As of now, the entry and exit points into the district have been cordoned off to stop the duo from fleeing," he said.

"Also, teams of Local Crime Branch (LCB), Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police have been formed and sent to various locations to nab the culprits," the SP said.
