Thane:
A teenager was raped allegedly by a 60-year-old man following which she became pregnant, the Thane rural police said today.
The 13-year-old girl from Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district, used to stay with the family of the accused at Jogesh Park locality on Mira Road. She used to do petty jobs for the family, since her father, a habitual drinker, could not take care of her.
According to the police, the family of the accused, identified as Pradhan Kaka, a retired BMC worker, used to allegedly give the victim tranquilisers and then take advantage of her drowsy state.
The accused repeatedly raped her for the past eight months, Mira Road police station inspector Dhanaji Kshirsagar said.
When the victim's father questioned her about her pregnancy, she revealed that she was sexually assaulted by the caretaker.
Following this, her father filed a complaint against Pradhan, his wife and another girl at their home.
API Jaiprakash Gute, the investigating officer in the case, said offences have been registered against the three under sections 376 (rape) and 328 rw 34 of the IPC, and sections 3, 4, 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The girl will be sent for medical examination after which her pregnancy period will be established, the police said, adding that a search has been launched to nab the absconding culprits.
