Several parts of Delhi witness power cuts

New Delhi: Parts of the capital on Tuesday witnessed power cuts owing to shortage of coal that resulted in power generating stations producing less electricity than normal levels.

Many areas in south, east Delhi and west Delhi witnessed cuts as distribution companies carried out load-shedding on rotation basis.

Areas like Greater Kailash I, Kailash Colony, Amar Colony, Nehru Place, Mayur Vihar phase I and New Ashok Nagar also witnessed power cuts.

Department officials said a number of coal-based power stations have curtailed supply to Delhi due to sudden increase in the power demand.

The maximum load on Monday was 3800 MW, but on Tuesday it increased by over 8 per cent to touch 4122 MW which is the highest this season.

The highest demand last year in winter months was 3934 MW on January 29.
