Rains in Delhi bring down mercury, cause traffic snarls

New Delhi: Downpours in the national capital on Tuesday brought down the maximum temperature by nearly two degrees but caused traffic snarls in various parts of the city. More rains are likely on Wednesday.

"The sky would remain generally cloudy. One or two spells of heavy rain are likely in some parts of the city," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will stay around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, added the official.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 32.9 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average for the season, but down from on Monday's 34.6 degrees. Minimum temperature was 27.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the average, while humidity remained high at 95 percent.

Rainfall recorded in the last 8 hours was 4.4 mm.

The Tuesday morning rain also caused traffic snarls in several parts of the city. According to the traffic helpline, vehicular movement remained slow at Ring Road, and Azadpur in north Delhi and Kashmere Gate area.

Delhi Traffic Police posted alert updates on social networking sites, warning of slow vehicular movement in Mori Gate, Dhaula Kuan and Masjid Moth.
