email

One person suffered a splinter injury after police opened fire at a speeding car that allegedly attempted to hit a Police Inspector after refusing to stop at a police check post outside Chennai last night.

The driver attempted to flee from the checkpost at Oorapakkam by making a U-turn, at which point the police shot at the car's tyre to deflate it.

The driver of the car, which turned out to be a taxi, has been arrested. He is also allegedly involved in a recent robbery and attempt to murder case.

Police said all four occupants of the car were under the influence of alcohol. The other three passengers have been let off because they had no past criminal records, police said.
