On one year of Mamata Banerjee's government, Kolkata treated to 'Ma Mati Manush' song at traffic signals

KolkataIn addition to Rabindranath Tagore songs, pedestrians and motorists in the city are now being treated to a song glorifying the theme "Ma Mati Manush" at traffic intersections to commemorate the completion of the first year of the Mamata Banerjee government.

The term "Ma Mati Manush" was coined by the Trinamool Congress chief in the run-up to the last Assembly election which saw the Marxists ousted from power after 34 years of uninterrupted rule.

The song, which focuses on communal harmony, bridging the urban-rural divide and betterment of the lot of farmers and women, is also being played over FM radio stations in the city.

"Eta Ma Mati Manusher din. Eta Ma Mati Manusher gaan (This is the day of 'Ma Mati Manush'. It is the song of 'Ma Mati Manush')," goes the lyrics of the two-minute song penned by Anindya Chatterjee, lead vocalist of the Bengali band Chandrabindoo.

Officials said the song would be played at all key traffic intersections in the city along with the usual Rabindra sangeet (Tagore songs).
