Mumbai: Mira Road police have arrested a 23-year-old woman Agnes Menezes for car theft on Tuesday.
Last week, the police received a complaint from Jogeshwari resident Sandeep Sherkar that Agnes rented his car and fled.
This is the second time Agnes has been arrested for car theft. Earlier in August 2009, she was arrested for allegedly stealing 17 vehicles and selling them without the consent of owners.
Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Mira Road station and arrested her when she came to strike a deal with a car owner. "Last year, she was arrested for the same offence.
We recovered many stolen vehicles, which she had sold. She has now been arrested for the second time for a similar offence," S Dhamane, sub-inspector of Mira Road police station said.
Agnes has been remanded in police custody for a week for questioning.
