Mumbai: Mumbai commuters using the city's metro will have to pay more. The Bombay High Court today allowed Reliance Infrastructure, which leads the consortium that operates the metro, to charge higher fares.

The government had challenged the fares of Rs 10-40, set by the operator, for different journeys on the existing line that links Ghatkopar in eastern Mumbai to Versova in the city's western part.

Reliance Infastructure had said in court that it is losing upto Rs 85 lakh a day despite being used by nearly 2.5 lakh commuters because the government wanted to cap the fare at Rs 13 for the longest distance.
