Minor attempts suicide after being allegedly raped at knife-point

Imphal: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour at knife-point in Imphal, state capital of Manipur, after which the teenager tried to commit suicide, police said.

According to the cops, 26-year-old Huidrom Khaba alias Sanjoy barged into the house of the victim at Sabal Leirak area while the family members were away and raped her at knife-point last night.

Local residents torched the house of the accused in Thoubal district and handed him over to the police, while his family members went into hiding, police said.

The girl informed her family members when they returned home and attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison.

She was rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal, where she is recovering and has undergone medical tests.
