Man stabs father-in-law 50 times over Rs 50,000 loan

Mumbai: In a gruesome double murder case, 29-year-old Nilesh Kamble from Chandivali was arrested by the Sakinaka police for killing his wife and father-in-law in the midst of a financial dispute, in the wee hours of yesterday.

Kamble stabbed his father-in-law, Mahadev Eknath Lokhande, 50 times and also his wife, Saraswati, after she tried to defend her father.  Police said that Kamble was fed up with Lokhande, who had borrowed money from him on several occasions.  In the past Lokhande, had borrowed Rs 50,000 from him and he had recently made a demand of Rs 70,000.

"Kamble, who was employed as a security guard, was depressed after he lost his job. Despite repeated requests, Lokhande was not ready to repay the pending loan of Rs 50,000, which he had taken from Kamble earlier. A recent request for a fresh loan irked Kamble and in a fit of rage, he attacked Lokhande," said an officer from Sakinaka police station.

Yesterday, Lokhande asked Kamble for more money, at his residence in Sangharsh Nagar, Chandivali, saying that he urgently needed it for his daughter's wedding. When his son-in-law refused, an argument broke out and the duo got into a scuffle, provoking Kamble to stab Lokhande. In a bid to save her father, Saraswati, intervened and was also stabbed.

"Later, the accused called up the chairman of the building, Indramani Dubey, and described the entire incident to him. He asked Dubey to inform the police. Dubey locked Kamble's door from outside and called the police," added the officer, who arrested the accused yesterday. The two dead bodies were sent to Rajawadi Hospital. Kamble has been booked under section 302 on charges of murder and will be produced in court on Wednesday.
