Man Held at Delhi Airport for Bid to Smuggle Rs.95 Lakh Worth Gold Biscuits

New Delhi: A Kerala resident was held at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here for allegedly smuggling in gold biscuits worth Rs 95 lakh from Kuwait.

The incident occurred in the wee hours today at the terminal-3 of the IGIA when CISF sleuths intercepted an incoming air passenger, identified as Shoukath Chellankath (31) of Kannur district in Kerala, and took him for frisking.

"During checking, 3.5 kg gold which includes three biscuits of one kg each and one gold bar of 500gm was recovered from his possession. He had concealed the gold in his shoes. Chellankath has been handed over to Customs authorities," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.

The action was carried out on the basis of specific input and the seized gold is estimated to be worth Rs 95 lakh, he said.
