Kolkata Metro staff foil woman's suicide bid

Kolkata: Alert officials of Kolkata Metro Railway today saved the life of a middle-aged woman who allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping on the tracks.

The woman, aged about 43 years, was reportedly trying to commit suicide at Kalighat Metro Station in the afternoon by jumping in front of a Metro coming from Dum Dum.

She was prevented from doing so by on duty Metro staff, officials said.

When she was caught, she tried to run over from the platform and tried to get out of the Metro station.

Later she was interrogated by on duty Station Manager and revealed her identity after which her family was contacted.

She was later on handed over to Kalighat police station.

Out of nine suicide attempts made at Metro stations this year, eight were foiled by the authorities.
