Journalist shot in East Delhi, succumbs in hospital

New Delhi: A journalist, working with an Urdu TV channel in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in New Delhi, police said on Friday.

Police said that 32-year-old Mohammad Akram, a native of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, was found unconscious in a pool of blood near a drain in Welcome area of east Delhi at 11.30 a.m. on Friday.

"A passer-by informed the Police Control Room. A police team reached the spot and rushed the victim to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where during treatment, he succumbed to his injury this evening," said a senior police officer.

Police said Akram had bullet injuries on his stomach and leg. His belongings, including his bag and camera, were missing, the officer added.

"A case has been registered and we are looking into the matter from robbery and personal enmity angle," said the officer.

"A few months ago Akram was transferred from Hyderabad to Moradabad as a programming head in ETV-Urdu channel," said the officer.
