Indore man alleges unauthorised drug trial on infant daughter

Indore: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will investigate allegations by a man that drug trials were conducted on his new-born child at Chacha Nehru Child Hospital in Indore in 2008.

A member of NCPCR will soon visit Indore to conduct investigation, said Dr Anand Rai of Clinical Trial Victims Help Group (CTVHG), an NGO, today.

Jitendra Sargaiya, the complainant, has written to the Commission that trials were conducted on his infant daughter at this government-run hospital while doctors did not seek his consent nor did they inform him about possible side-effects.

According to Sargaiya, he learnt about the trials when the issue of unauthorised drug trials was discussed in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, and he found his daughter's name in the list of persons subjected to such trials.

He had taken his 11-day-old daughter to the hospital for immunisation. He alleges that trial of a vaccine was conducted on her, and subsequently she was kept in ICU for one month.

It had adverse impact on her growth, he claims.
