Indian-American doctor arrested for allegedly raping 38-year-old woman, say police

Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested a US national of Indian origin, Dr Vikram Dravid (38), on charges of rape. He is accused of raping a 38-year-old married woman who also is a US national of Indian origin.

According to police, Dravid, who studied in the US and completed his medical course, had befriended the woman in 2001.

In her complaint, the victim has alleged that Dravid had claimed that he had supernatural powers and promised to cure her ailment.

She claims that he raped her in May 2008 when she went to his residence for treatment. He allegedly sedated her drink and raped her. The complaint was lodged on Sunday.

David has been remanded to police custody till August 10.
