In Chennai, airport employees' union protest against privatisation

Chennai: Over 1,500 employees of the Airports Authority of India today staged a protest in Chennai against the Centre's attempts to privatise airports in the country.

Activists of employee unions and associations gathered in front of the airport this afternoon and raised slogans against the Centre, airport sources said.

They also held placards against privatisation of airports in the country including the one in Chennai, the sources said.

Speaking to reporters, union activist George said the Centre had not honoured any of the promises it made while privatising Delhi and Mumbai airports.

"Now they are trying to privatise other airports in the country," he said.

He also alleged that the government was attempting to favour private players, which were least interested in the benefits of the general public.
