IIT to help prepare Delhi's drainage master plan

New Delhi The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi (IIT) will work with the Delhi government to prepare the Master Plan of Drainage for the capital.

"We have decided to appoint the Indian Institute of Technology as consultant for the capital's Master Plan of drainage," Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said after a cabinet meeting on Monday.

Citing massive changes in the demography and infrastructure of the capital since the last Master Plan for drainage was finalised in 1981, Dikshit said, "Since then (1981) a sea-change has taken place in the scenario of Delhi, as population and habitation has reached a level of saturation."

Dikshit added that owing to the mushrooming of new housing colonies, unplanned growth and its multi-storeyed character, it was decided in 2007 to prepare a new Master Plan of drainage.
