Hyderabad: Man arrested with 7 kg gold ornaments stolen from financial firm

Hyderabad: A labourer from Jharkhand was today arrested in Hyderabad in connection with the theft at Muthoot Finance in Zaheerabad town and 7 kg gold ornaments and Rs 13.42 lakh in cash was seized from his possession, police said.

Ashok Sharma, a native of Saheb Gunj mandal of Jharkhand, who was moving in a suspicious manner with one bag on platform No.1 of Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, was caught by Afzalgunj Police, which was conducting a surprise check, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters.

"He (Ashok) tried to run away when the police team was enquiring from him but was immediately caught and after searching his bag, police found as many as 499 envelope covers containing gold items having sticker of Muthoot Super Loan of Zaheerabad branch and also containing details of depositors along with other details besdies cash of Rs 13.42 lakh," the Hyderabad Police chief said.

On further questioning, Ashok said one Kamru of West Bengal, who had called him to Hyderabad for labour work, had handed him over this bag at Nampally railway station here this morning and informed that it is a stolen property and instructed him to bring the same to the bus station, the senior police officer said.

"It appears that the seized property seems to have been stolen from Muthoot Finance branch in Zaheerabad on the intervening night of February 2 and 3. Ashok is claiming he is not involved in the theft. We have informed the Zaheerabad Police in this regard and they will be taking up further investigation," the CP said adding search is continuing for other accused.
