Caught on Camera: Mamata Banerjee's Partyman Thrashes Hotel Manager

CCTV footage shows Dipak Sahu, an alleged Trinamool worker (Left) in an altercation with the hotel manager.

Howrah: A video of a hotel employee being thrashed, allegedly by a member of the ruling Trinamool Congress party, has generated a new controversy in West Bengal.

Sumit Naha, the owner of the small hotel in Howrah near Kolkata, allegedly died after receiving threatening calls from the attacker after a police complaint was filed.

On June 20, Dipak Sahu, a Trinamool worker, went to Mr Naha's hotel, Bridge Lodge, and allegedly got into a fight with the hotel manager after being refused a room of his choice.
Mr Sahu was seen on CCTV camera footage beating up the manager.

Armed with the CCTV footage, the manager filed a police complaint against the Trinamool worker the next day.

Late on Sunday night, the accused allegedly called up Mr Naha, the hotel owner, three to four times, threatening him and demanding that the complaint against him be withdrawn. A couple of hours later, Mr Naha, 37, reportedly suffered a heart attack and died.

The Trinamool has denied any link to the incident.

"These days anyone who is at fault is said to be from Trinamool... our party reputation is being maligned for no reason... If such a person named is present in the party, we will take action," said a Trinamoool leader.

Mr Naha's mother is likely to file a police complaint.
