Heavy rain in parts of Delhi causes traffic jams during rush hour
New Delhi: Heavy rain lashed most parts of the national capital this morning leading to massive traffic jams and water logging at various places in the city during the rush hour.

Slow traffic movement was reported from areas like ITO, Moti Bagh, Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh, Patel Nagar, Kalkaji, Connaught Place, Ashram, Ashoka Road, India Gate and Sarojini Nagar. (See pictures here)

There are also reports of several Durga Puja pandals in the city being inundated with water due to the rain.

According to the Met department, another spell of light to moderate rainfall is likely this weekend.

This year's monsoon in Delhi is tipped to be of the longest duration in more than 50 years. The normal date of withdrawal for the monsoon from Delhi is September 21. But, most years, the monsoon recedes by the end of September.

In the last 70 years, only on seven occasions has the monsoon withdrawn from the national capital region in October, in 2007 and before that in 1954, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1974.
