Guard Shot, Rs 1.5 Crore Looted from Cash Van by Robbers in North Delhi

New Delhi: A guard was shot and nearly Rs 1.5 crore was looted by robbers from an ATM cash van at Kamla Nagar in north Delhi on Saturday.

The incident took place around 11 am outside a popular fast food outlet near Delhi University.

The robbery was carried out by two men on a bike, who rode up to the van while it was parked in front of a local ATM.

The other occupants of the cash van, who were also armed, were inside the ATM while the guard was waiting outside.

The two men shot the guard and then, at gunpoint, took the briefcase with money from the cash custodians and fled from the spot.

"The cash bag was taken inside the ATM when two people came on a bike, opened fire at the guard, entered the ATM and ran away with the bag," said Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police.

"The cash bag had Rs 1.5 crore in cash. The condition of the guard is critical, his treatment is going on," he added.

The police is talking to eye-witnesses, some of whom reportedly recorded the incident on their cell phone cameras. They will also inspect footage from a Closed Circuit Television cameras installed outside the ATM.
