Gas Leak at Bombay High Oil Rig, Workers Evacuated
Mumbai: A high pressure, highly inflammable gas leak was reported on Saturday at a well state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) was drilling at the Bombay High oil rig, off the coast of Mumbai.

The oil rig is situated 162 kilometres off the coast of Mumbai and is operated by ONGC.

ONGC immediately activated safety procedures, shut down drilling operations and evacuated all non-essential staff.

The Coast Guard and Indian Navy diverted ships and helicopter company Pawan Hans provided assistance in evacuation.

"Everything is under control and all the personnel have been evacuated. Our crisis management team is there," ONGC spokesperson Pallav Bhattacharya said.

The oil major said the leakage is minor and the evacuation has been done as a precautionary manner.
