Fire in Amritsar slum doused; no casualties reported

AmritsarA fire that had broken out in a slum in Amritsar was doused late last night. Around ten fire engines and the army were involved in battling the blaze.

There are no casualties reported as of now and authorities are ascertaining the cause of the fire.

The fire reportedly began from a garbage dump where all the burnt left over from the nearby near the Khanna paper mills was left.

Khanna Mills, one of the largest paper mills of the country had caught fire on June 13. Locals allege that the waste from the mills especially after that fire, was being dumped in the slum because of which the fire spread rapidly.

A 7-member committee has been constituted, informed Rajat Aggarwal the Deputy Commissioner.
