Even as the Bangalore police probing the murder of Dell employee Payal Sureka remained tight-lipped on the progress of the case, her relatives have taken the cyber route in the hope of finding clues that may lead to the murderer.
Gaurav Gupta, cousin of the deceased, requested Payal's friends and colleagues at Dell on the social networking site Facebook to share any information about the killer so that the culprit would be brought to book.
Another cousin, Prerana Gupta and also requested for information. Payal's relatives had on Sunday raised suspicion that her husband, Anant Narayan Mishra, might have conspired to eliminate her.
The police, who interrogated Mishra, were yet to find any evidence to frame him, although they had found discrepancies in his statements. Meanwhile, the probe into the December 17 murder has been revolving around an unidentified middle-aged man, who had purportedly visited Payal on that fateful day.
The man had inquired about Payal's flat with a neighbour and a security guard, who later provided a description of the man's features to the police. The man had earlier visited the place where Payal had been staying, before coming to the JP Nagar flat. The man confirmed with a security guard that it was Payal's flat before knocking on the door.
The investigators were still suspecting that someone known to Payal was behind the murder. It has been suspected that the woman had let the man in, since the police could not find any signs of forced entry or struggle.
Besides slitting her throat, the killer stabbed her about 12 to 15 times in the abdomen. According to sources, the police were still searching for one of the two mobile phones belonging to Payal. They had also confiscated her laptop and Mishra's cell-phones for further investigation.
The deputy commissioner of police (south), Sonia Narang, said the investigators have been questioning a few people, including her husband. The joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said the investigation was moving on the right track.
