Delhi: Woman arrested for allegedly forcing Ugandan nationals into prostitution

New Delhi: A Ugandan woman was arrested in Delhi today for allegedly pushing women from her country into prostitution.

Irene has also been accused of forcibly taking away the passports of at least three Ugandan women to force them into flesh trade.

Irene has been charged with extortion and immoral trafficking.

Police are also looking for a man considered to be Irene's boyfriend and her alleged accomplice in the prostitution racket.

Cops have asked the three Ugandan women, currently lodged at a government shelter home, to stay back until the mandatory identification process is completed.

Delhi's law minister Somnath Bharti had claimed that the three Ugandan women had approached him for help saying that they were victims of the alleged sex and drug racket.

The Aam Aadmi Party later held a protest in support of the women, claiming that their allegations vindacated Mr Bharti's controversial midnight raid on the house of African nationals in a south Delhi neighbourhood last month.
