Delhi Police Arrest Three Drug Peddlers From Chennai

New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested three people, including two Sri Lankans, from Chennai for peddling contraband drugs, police said on Sunday.

Delhi Police Special Cell sleuths arrested Mayelerum Perumal alias Mailu of Tamil Nadu along with Jawzeek and Mohammad Razik of Sri Lanka from Chennai Saturday in a trans-national operation against narcotics.

A total of 16 kg of fine quality heroin, which had been concealed inside processed food tin cans, was recovered from the possession of the accused. The value of the seized drug is around Rs.50 crore in the international market.

Police said Mailu is an expert in managing the logistics of such drug movement into India.

The consignment which was smuggled into India from Afghanistan via Pakistan then went through Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan to Tamil Nadu, with its ultimate destination being Sri Lanka.

"Packing limited quantity of the drug in large consignments of processed food tin cans seldom raises an eyebrow and often passes undetected by sniffer dogs or scanners," an officer said.
