Delhi: Government to Launch Intensive Hygiene Campaign

New Delhi: Delhi government will launch an intensive campaign with the help of leading NGOs working in the field of sanitation to sensitize residents of jhuggi- jhopri (JJ) clusters about the benefits of hygiene.

The NGOs include Plan India, WaterAid India, Save the Children, Centre for Advocacy & Research (CFAR).

The campaign is part of a cleanliness drive that will begin from September 25. The objective is to spread awareness and initiate action on overall cleanliness. Activities may include a 'sanitation drive' in which people themselves may lead the cleanliness effort. Further key infrastructural areas requiring upgradation will be identified in each area," said Amar Nath, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The government will also clean and beautify its night shelters.

"A special drive to clean night shelters in collaboration with NGO's managing the night shelters will be launched," said Mr Nath.

In JJ clusters, it will be ensured that drains are de-silted along with regular sweeping of area, removal of garbage and toilet complexes are maintained to a desired level of cleanliness.

Documentation of the impact will be done with photographs that may be used for a likely finale event on October 2.
