Delhi: Congolese woman allegedly raped

New Delhi: A 20-year-old Congolese national was allegedly raped in Delhi by two cloth merchants inside her house on Friday afternoon, police said.

The woman, in her statement to the police, said the cloth sellers overpowered her and raped her inside her rented home in the Hauz Rani area in Malviya Nagar of south Delhi at around 12.30 p.m.

"The woman said the cloth sellers knocked on the door of her house, asking her to buy some clothes from them. She opened the gate and was busy in choosing the clothes when the men overpowered her and dragged her inside where she was raped," said a police officer as per the victim's statement.

The victim was taken for medical examination.

"We are waiting for her medical examination to confirm her allegation," said the officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police BS Jaiswal told IANS the police scrutinised the CCTV camera installed at the entrance of the building where the woman resides but no cloth merchants was seen in the footage available from Friday morning to 2 p.m.

"As the woman is changing her statements, we are yet to ascertain if her allegation is right or wrong," said Jaiswal.

Another police officer said that according to her neighbours, she would often threaten her landlord that she would frame him in a rape case.
