Delhi: 50-year-old man arrested for alleged travel scam

New Delhi: A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping hundreds of gullible tourists of crores of rupees with the help of his son, who is absconding, police said today.

Sanjay Raili was arrested recently by Kalkaji police while efforts are on to nab his 24-year-old son Sambhav.

"The father-son duo ran a tour and travel agency with offices in Mumbai, Chandigarh and Delhi.  Here they had their office in Nehru Place. They had a lavish lifestyle in order to impress their potential victims," said a police official.

They came under police scanner after a Delhi-based doctor Anand Kumar approached police saying that the father-son duo had taken Rs 15 lakh from him for Europe tour and then shut their office. They had switched off their mobile numbers.

An investigation was carried out and Sanjay Raili was arrested after police traced him through technical surveillance a couple of days ago.

During interrogation, Raili confessed to have duped around 200 people in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigrah.

Most of their victims included newly-married couples who booked honeymoon packages.

The father-son duo have also allegedly cheated investors through multi-level marketing schemes earlier, the official said.

Raili's son Sambhav, who is absconding, was arrested in 2009 for posing as an IPS officer and is currently out on bail, police said.
