Mumbai: Passengers in the arrivals section of the new international terminal can expect some relief. Customs officials shifted their offices to the new Terminal 2 (T2) yesterday. All officers, including top officials, will henceforth be at T2, which will aid quick movement of fliers. The move took about five days to complete all formalities.

Authorities said all officials would be available in case of any emergency or inconvenience to passengers, and that issues would be solved faster since the concerned officials would be present there. This is the first time that the Customs office is located in the international terminal.

Earlier, only the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers and officers in uniform used to be present in the old Terminal 2. Now, all departments, including Vigilance and Administration, chief commissioner and commissioner of customs will be located at the new T2.

"Grievances of passengers will be heard faster; files will move quicker as well. Work will become easier, as officers will be available whenever needed. Hence, no time will be wasted travelling unlike before," said an AIU officer. The commissioner of customs confirmed the shift.

The officer further added, "Daily reporting will be done on time and as office work is completed earlier, more time will be dedicated to fliers." Sonal Dubey, a frequent flier to London and an IT professional, said, "I am very happy to hear this news. It takes around an hour for us to clear Customs.

I am sure passengers will benefit from this move." Paresh Ingale, an MNC professional and a frequent flier, told MiD DAY, "I hope this helps and assistance is provided to passengers, with the authorities being available in the premises itself."
