College student hospitalised after being allegedly ragged

email

Coimbatore: A first year student of a city Arts college was allegedly beaten up by his seniors during ragging and had to be hospitalised, police said.

The youth, admitted to the Government Hospital in Coimbatore with injuries on his face and eyes, claimed he was hit with a plastic pipe by some students he knew without any provocation.

Based on his complaint, an FIR was filed against the students, they said.

Police said they are also verifying whether the college has formed an anti-ragging committee, as made mandatory by the Bharathiar University

Meanwhile, heated arguments broke out between some doctors and journalists over taking visuals of the student at the hospital and a senior doctor reportedly manhandled a cameraman of a Tamil TV Channel.

However, another senior doctor and police intervened and sorted out the issue, they said.
