A woman delivered a baby on the road after being turned back by government hospital staff as there was no doctor available, police said on Thursday.
Lakshmi, a resident of Acchampalayam,was taken to the Annur Government Hospital, 35 km from Coimbatore, around 11 pm, when she went into labour. However, as the doctors were not available in the night, she was turned back by the staff, they said.
As relatives were planning to bring her to Coimbatore, Lakshmi delivered the baby on the road itself.
The hospital staff, however, examined and gave preliminary aid to both the mother and baby, who was healthy, before they were taken to Coimbatore, the sources said.
