Chennai: Jilted lover stabs woman techie to death

Chennai: Upset over being rejected, a 29-year-oldsoftware engineer allegedly stabbed a woman colleague, who he was in love with,to death. He too was battling for life after attempting to commit suicide, policesaid today.

 25-year-old Vaishya was stabbed  by Venkatachalapathyafter a brief altercation when she was walking towardsthe Perungudi Railway Station late last nightafter the day'swork. The man stabbed himself after attacking the woman.

Both the woman and the assailant, employed with a leading informationtechnology company, were rushed to government hospitals in Chennai.

Whilethe woman died without responding to treatment at the RoyapettahGovernment Hospital, the man's condition was stated to be critical atthe Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, policesaid.

Theincident has again brought to focus safety of women, specially IT employees,returning home late at night from work.

InFebruary, a 24-year old woman employee of Tata
ConsultancyServices was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed by threemigrant workers near her office on the city's outskirts.

Following this, IT services companies were advised by
police to installcameras in and around their premises and employees were notallowed to leave by two-wheelers beyond 8.30 pm and askedto take company vehicles as part of measures to strengthen security.
