Kanpur: Four people died and 10 were rescued after an explosion in what is believed to have been a illegal firecrackers  factory caused the entire two-storey building in Kanpur to collapse.

The police have ruled out a terror attack. A senior officer said preliminary investigations indicated that the explosion occurred in the room of a ward boy, Rajesh, who is suspected to have been manufacturing illegal fireworks, which exploded. The police also found gunpowder at the location. The building had residential quarters for workers of a community health centre.

Those dead include two men and a woman. Three injured people have been taken to a government hospital. (Watch: Kanpur blast - Eyewitness account)

Only once the rubble is cleared will the police be able to confirm if there are more people trapped. Rescue and clearing operations are on. JVC machines, the Anti-Terror Squad and the District Magistrate and the Deputy Inspector General of Police are at the site, which is about 30 km away from the main city.
