Bangalore: Football fanaticism took a whole new meaning when a 17-year-old boy in Bangalore consumed poison after he was not allowed to watch any more football matches.

Kevin Peter, a first year student at St Miras Institute, was scolded by his parents for watching too much of the game. On Tuesday, Kevin missed his tuitions to watch the match, which infuriated his parents.

After being reprimanded, Kevin picked up a bottle of cockroach poison and sprayed it into his mouth.

When Kevin's mother went to call him for dinner at around 9:00 pm (IST), she found him unable to breathe and quickly rushed him to Bowring Hospital.

A source at the hospital said, "Kevin is now out of danger. However, we are keeping him under further observation."

On Wednesday night, the police were informed and a case of attempted suicide was registered.

"We been told that the boy tried to commit suicide because his parents did not allow him to watch football. We are still investigating the case," said ASI G Venkatesh.
