Allegedly harassed, 19-year-old engineering student commits suicide in Thane
Thane: After being allegedly harassed by two boys in his college, a 19-year-old engineering student committed suicide by jumping in front of a train between the Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar stations on the outskirts of Mumbai in Thane district.

Nitin Padalkar was a second-year Electronics and Telecommunications engineering student at the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology affiliated to DY Patil University at Nerul in Navi Mumbai. His body was found on the tracks on May 10. The police say they have recovered a suicide note from his pocket in which he has accused two boys of harassing him.

A case has been registered at the Railway Police Station at Kalyan. Police say they are investigating the case and the two boys will be questioned.

Police Inspector SD Nirmal told NDTV, "He was declared dead before he could be admitted to the hospital. His father and sister have told us that two boys from his college are responsible for his death. We have recovered a letter and we are investigating the matter based on what has been mentioned in the letter."

Nitin's distraught family wants those responsible for his death to be punished.

"This is not fair. He was studying at the DY Patil University. Two boys used to fight with him.  They used to harass him. They used to disturb him during examinations. He used to complain to his mother and sister about the two boys. This had been going on for two months especially during examinations. I am a poor man. I work as a labourer," Nitin's father, Baldo Padalkar told NDTV.

The police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
