Allahabad teenager set on fire for resisting rape still in critical condition; main accused arrested
Allahabad: A 15-year-old girl who was set on fire near Allahabad on Sunday after she resisted a rape attempt continues to be in critical condition, doctors attending to her have said. The man who allegedly tried to rape her was arrested by the police last night.

According to the police, the Class 10th student has alleged that she was alone at home when the accused, her neighbour Gyan Singh, entered her home and tried to rape her. As she raised an alarm, he fled away. In her complaint to the police, the teenager has claimed that his parents later came to her house, doused her with kerosene and set her on fire. They are already in police custody.

"The victim's sister told us that she saw the accused leaving their house with his parents," Arun Kumar Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Crime, Allahabad, said.

The girl, who has suffered 80 per cent burn injuries, is being treated at a hospital in Allahabad. A doctor who is treating her said yesterday, "She is quite critical, we are giving her the best care. She is conscious and is responding to commands. If her condition worsens, we will take a decision whether to refer her to a hospital in Lucknow or Delhi. For now, we have everything that is needed for her treatment."
