300 Fall Ill After Tanker Dumps Hazardous Waste Into Drain in Ulhasnagar

Mumbai: At least 300 people fell ill in Ulhasnagar near Mumbai on Saturday after a tankers dumped hazardous discharge into a drain.

The trouble began at 09:00 am when residents who live alongside the drain started complaining of nausea and irritation.

Most of these people live in the hutments, they were rushed to the hospital after coming in contact with contaminated water. A team of doctors were dispatched to the area by the administration. While most of them were discharged after receiving treatments during the day, 25 are still in hospital and in stable condition.

The police have begun its investigation and collected samples of the drain water.

Locals allege tankers dump hazardous waste into the drain on a regular basis. The police have registered a case and are tracking down the tanker that allegedly dumped the waste.
