3,600 Vehicles 'Challaned' in Ghaziabad for Traffic Violations in a Week

Ghaziabad: About 3,600 vehicles have been challaned for traffic violations so far as part of a month-long special drive which began on November 1, Ghaziabad traffic police said on Friday.

The 'Traffic Month' was started on November 1 and will continue till November 30, Traffic Inspector Anil Yadav said.

"Only today, till 12 noon a total number of 666 vehicles were challaned. A pecuniary fine of rupees 93,850 was collected from errant vehicle drivers," he said.

"316 two-wheeler riders were challaned for being without helmet, nine car drivers for using mobile phone, 51 persons for driving car without seat belts, 69 people for triple riding, 16 for over speeding, four drivers for driving on the wrong side, one for doing stunts on motor cycle, one for drunken driving, and 199 were prosecuted in other miscellaneous section of Motor Vehicle Act," he added.

A special drive will be launched tomorrow for checking overloading of school buses/vans. They will be prosecuted and their vehicles will be impounded on the spot in absence of valid papers. Minors driving two or four wheelers will also be admonished and challaned, Mr Yadav said.
