Six Modi Ideas on Display at Rajpath on Monday

The Iron lion of the 'Make in India' tableau at the Republic Day celebrations.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet projects found pride of place among the tableaux that glided down Rajpath this morning in the Republic Day parade, with US President Barack Obama present as chief guest. A giant pass book dominated the 'Jan Dhan Yojana' float and 'Make in India' had a gigantic mechanised lion that is the campaign's logo.

Here are the top six Modi ideas that were seen on Rajpath on Monday

  1. The 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana' float of the department of financial services' highlighted the uniqueness of the campaign, which aims at bank accounts for all Indians and its impact on the weaker sections and low income groups.

  2. The 'Make in India' tableau presented by the department of industrial policy and promotion depicted the mechanised lion made up of  cogs and wheels against the backdrop of a smart city. The campaign aims to promote manufacturing in India.

  3. The 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (save the daughter, educate her) programme, launched just last week with a powerful speech by the Prime MInister as a campaign against female foeticide, was depicted on a tableau that showed a woman rocking her infant daughter while other women dressed as doctors, engineers and scientists gathered around her.

  4. The Central Public Works Department or CPWD showcased the Ganga river, using tons of flowers to depict Gaumukh, where the river Ganga originates. The tableau also depicted glaciers, a Gangotri temple and the famous Ganga aarti. The cleaning of the Ganga is a big priority of the Modi government.

  5. The tableau from Gujarat, the prime minster's home state, had a massive replica of the 'Statue of Unity' that pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first home minister. The statue being built in front of the Sardar Sarovar in the river Narmada on a budget of Rs 200 crore, was initiated by PM Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister.

  6. The Ministry of Indian systems of medicine and homeopathy depicted the Yoga system which PM Modi termed as the 'pride of nation' after United Nations recognised June 21 as the International Yoga Day. The tableau depicted Yoga Acharyas (masters of yoga) and the the Unani and Ayurveda systems of medicine.
